NLSP CODE OF CONDUCT

This code of practice outlines the expected professional behaviour of members of the Association of NLSP - a central theme of which is respect for the individual nature, attitudes, approach and skills of the sportsmen and women with whom members work.

Members of the Association of NLSP agree to abide by the Association's code of practice and it is expected that they will:

  1. Conduct themselves at all times with integrity when working with sportsmen and women. Members shall conduct consultations in a professional manner.
  2. Maintain high standards of personal behaviour at all times and ensure that they do not bring themselves or the Association into disrepute.
  3. Take personal responsibility for the establishment and maintenance of good relations with other associations, organisations and professionals (e.g. other NLSP members, sports psychologists, coaches, physiotherapists, fitness coaches etc.).
  4. Maintain the integrity and good name of NLSP in public and in the media.
  5. Respect the rights, needs, aspirations and trust of the individual, regardless of gender, age, class, culture or creed and also respect the wishes and aspirations of parents, guardians and carers of young sportsmen and women.
  6. Maintain the strict confidentiality of personal information. Practitioners are expected to maintain appropriate records of their work with clients unless there are strong reasons for not doing so. Records must be kept confidential and protected from unauthorised disclosure. Members should take into account their responsibilities and their clients' rights under data protection legislation and any other legal requirements.
  7. Take responsibility to further their own personal development in terms of professional skills, knowledge and attitudes. NLSP members represent diverse academic/professional backgrounds and should therefore recognize the boundaries of their professional competencies and the limitations of their areas of expertise.
